SBU Assessment
SBU Assessment reports (SBU Utvärderar) presents a comprehensive, systematic assessment of available scientific evidence. The quality of the evidence for each finding is systematically reviewed and graded. Full assessments include health economic, social impact and ethical impact analyses. SBU assessments are performed by a team of leading professional practitioners and academics, patient/user representatives and SBU staff. Prior to approval and publication, assessments are reviewed by independent experts, SBU Scientific Advisory Committees and the Board of Directors. Reports in the form of SBU Assesses always contain a systematic literature review of the overall scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of the measure in question. An analysis of health economics and ethics may also be included.
SBU Commentary
SBU Commentary reports (SBU Kommenterar) are shorter reports in which SBU
comments on well-conducted systematic reviews produced by other stakeholders,
on a topic relevant to Swedish healthcare or social services. We scrutinise the systematic review and determine whether it can be extrapolated to Swedish conditions.
SBU Evidence Map
SBU Evidence map (SBU Kartlägger) identify the systematic review of other stakeholders and, occasionally, primary studies. These reports are usually based on a broader type of question. They identify areas where scientific evidence exists, and areas where reliable knowledge is lacking. Findings are presented in interaktice evidence ccharts with links to the constituent reviews.
SBU Policy Support
SBU Policy Support (SBU Bereder) identifies and presents available scientific evidence to support policy and decision making, including the development of national guidelines, at other government agencies. In consultation with professional experts, SBU staff generates supporting documentation to address the various questions that have been posed.
SBU Enquiry Response
SBU Enquiry response consists of systematic literature searches to highlight studies that can address questions received by the SBU Enquiry Service from Swedish healthcare or social service providers. Relevant references are compiled by an SBU staff member, in consultation with an external expert when needed. The quality of the studies identified is not systematically reviewed.
SBU Evidence Gap
Evidence gap (SBU Kartlägger) identifies methods or practices for which no conclusive systematic review of benefits and harms has been published. Gaps in scientific evidence appear on the SBU website to help researchers and granting agencies identify areas that are in need of research or systematic review. An additional objective is to offer healthcare and social service providers a basis for setting priorities.
SBU Prioritisation Aid
SBU Prioritisation aid provides evidence-based support for prioritizing of health and social services, while calling special attention to practices that are harmful or ineffective.
