Strukturerad litteratur­sökning som besvarar fråga från vården eller social­tjänsten om vilka relevanta översikter och studier som finns. Vi bedömer risken för bias i systematiska översikter och vid behov även kvalitet och över­förbarhet av resultaten i hälso­ekonomiska studier. Svaret utformas av medarbetare på SBU, vid behov med stöd av ämnessakkunnig.

En del kvinnor har svårt att bli gravida på naturlig väg. Assisterad befruktning i form av IVF (in vitro-fertilisering eller provrörsbefruktning) kan ge barnlösa kvinnor möjlighet att bli gravida. Vid IVF sammanförs ägg och spermier utanför kroppen och embryot förs sedan in i kvinnans livmoder.

För dem som önskar genomgå en IVF-behandling i Sverige finns ett antal begränsningar, bland annat med hänsyn till hur många IVF-behandlingar man tidigare genomgått.

Upplysningstjänsten har inte beaktat etiska aspekter.

Upplysningstjänsten har identifierat en systematisk översikt och två olika riktlinjer från NICE baserade på systematiska översikter i vilka man undersöker hur antal försök påverkar resultat av IVF-behandlingar.

Sammantaget drar författarna till studierna slutsatsen att sannolikheten för en framgångsrik behandling, på gruppnivå, minskar lite efter en misslyckad behandling. Därefter är sannolikheten för ett lyckat utfall relativt oförändrad upp till fjärde/ femte försöket.
