Med WAD menas besvär efter distorsion (förvridning) av halsryggen. Den här typen av smärta och besvär dyker oftast upp efter en trafikolycka. Orsaken till smärtan är dock oklar och det är svårt att objektivt diagnosticera WAD. Det finns en teori om att över- eller underrörlighet i nacken är orsaken till smärtan.

Videofluoroskopi, rörliga röntgenbilder, är ett sätt att undersöka rörligheten i halsryggen. Det är dock oklart om videofluoroskopi är lämpligt för diagnostik av WAD. 

En C-båge är en typ av röntgenutrustning. Röntgenröret befinner sig på den ena sidan och detektorn på den andra sidan av ett ”C”. På grund av rörligheten i C-bågen är det möjligt att få röntgenbilder från nästan vilket plan som helst. C-båge kan t ex användas under ortopediska operationer för att göra dem minimalt invasiva.

Upplysningstjänsten har inte identifierat några studier som direkt svarar på frågeställningen om diagnostik av WAD med hjälp av röntgengenomlysning på C-båge.

Vi har identifierat fyra studier över videofluoroskopi i samband med halsryggsmärtor. Alla studier har ett litet antal patienter. Tre av studierna är publicerade före år 1975. En av studierna har ingen kontrollgrupp.

Sammantaget gör detta att det är svårt att dra slutsatser av materialet.
