Treatment och rehabilitation of people with fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by prolonged and widespread pain and of tenderness of the muscle and joint.

Sleep disturbances and fatigue are common.

It is estimated that approximately two per cent of the population has fibromyalgia.

The diagnosis is more common in women than in men: almost 80% of those afflicted are women.

Fibromyalgia can impair life in several ways: physically, psychologically and socially.

Consequently, a number of therapies geared toward different aspects of the condition may be needed in treatment.

SBU will evaluate the effects of different therapies used in treatment and rehabilitation of fibromyalgia.

Examples of different therapies to be evaluated are:

  • Drug therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Psychological therapy

The evaluation is a government commission to be completed in December 2021.
