Diagnosis and treatment of vulvar vestibulitis


Vulvar vestibulitis (localized provoked vulvodynia/ vestibulodynia) is a condition characterized by pain at the vulva present in sexual and nonsexual situations. The prevalence is highest among young women. Vestibulitis has a negative impact on the women’s sexual relations, wellbeing and quality of life. Many of the affected women do not seek health care for the condition.


The aim is to assess the of the scientific evidence for methods to diagnose and treat vestibulitis through a systematic review. The assessment will cover effects and harms from the interventions.

The assessment is an inquiry from the government and will be published in June 2021.
