Checklists

These are useful tools and checklists when assessing studies for a systematic review:

Primary studies

  • RoB 2: tool to assess risk of bias in randomized trials***
  • ROBINS-I: tool to assess risk of bias in non-randomized studies of interventions***
  • QUADAS-2: tool to assess risk of bias and applicability of primary diagnostic accuracy studies*
  • CASP Checklist for appraising a qualitative study**

Systematic reviews

  • QUICKSTAR – A tool to synoptically assess the methodological quality (risk of bias) of systematic reviews
  • ROBIS: tool for assessing the risk of bias in systematic reviews***
  • AMSTAR: a measurement tool to assess systematic reviews*
  • Tool to assess methodological limitations of qualitative evidence synthesis****

Health Economics and Ethics

  • Checklist for assessing the quality of trialbased health economic studies
  • Checklist for assessing the quality of health economic modelling studies
  • Ethical aspects of health care interventions. A guideline to identifying relevant ethical aspects
  • Framework for systematic identification of ethical aspects of healthcare technologies: the SBU approach (International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, Volume 31, Issue 3, 2015)

* SBU uses a version translated  to Swedish.
** SBU do not use CASP. Instead a checklist developed by SBU is used, only available in Swedish.
*** SBU uses a version translated to Swedish, with a question added regarding conflict of interest.
**** Checklist developed by SBU based on Tong et al, 2012.
