SBU published a report in 2002 entitled Obesity – Problems and Interventions. The report examined a number of different methods for preventing and treating obesity in children, young people and adults. In addition to dietary treatment, physical activity, behavioural therapy, surgery, pharmacological treatment and alternative medicine were assessed. A 2005 report entitled Interventions to Prevent Obesity updated the original section on preventive methods. Given the intensive debate in Sweden and around the world about the scientific basis for the impact of various diets on health and body weight, as well as the rapidly growing body of research published since 2002, a systematic review of current knowledge about diet and obesity is of great importance.

The primary objective of the project is to analyse and describe the impact of various diets and individual foods on weight loss, mortality, morbidity and quality of life in people with obesity.
