Prophylaxis with general antibiotics is used in connection with certain surgical interventions to avoid bacterial endocarditis and prevent postoperative wound infections.
The purpose of the project is to examine the scientific evidence for the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis on the occurrence of endocarditis and local or general infections after surgical interventions. We will examine the scientific evidence for the preparation, dosage and treatment period that is most effective in preventing the above complications, as well as the degree to which the treatment gives rise to adverse effects or the development of resistance. We will explore ethical and health economic aspects.
